KENT MOTTER, age 94, of Grand Rapids, MN died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Sugar Brook Villa Assisted Living. 

 

Kent was born in 1918 to Virgil and Mary Motter in Malinta, Ohio.  He was united in marriage to Sarah Richards on August 20, 1947.   He moved the family and trade from Ohio to Minnesota in 1955 fueled by his love of fishing and Minnesota’s many lakes.  He later owned and operated Motter Lumber Co.  Kent learned cabinet making from his father and still enjoyed woodworking in his later years.  Kent served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Campaign.  He was active in the community and was a long-time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, acting as its Governor at one time, and was a member of the Mason’s and Shriner’s Cycle Patrol.  Kent enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fisherman.  He made a positive impact on everyone he met. 

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, and brothers, Raymond and George.

 

Kent is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Gene) Glorvigen and Carol (Dennis) Ferguson; four sons, Richard (Joy) Motter, Thomas (Kimberly Haber) Motter, Daniel (Ruth) Motter and Roger (Lorene) Motter; one sister, Mary Catherine Nishwitz; one brother, Donald (Darlene) Motter; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7th at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids and again at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8th at the Restoration Life Church for one hour until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service.  The Rev. Becky Murphy will officiate.  Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Harris Cemetery.
